Great-Great Grandma’s Frozen Sweet Corn


16 cups corn kernels cut from the cob (raw)

1 stick oleo

2/3 cup sugar

4 tsp. salt

4 cups water


Combine ingredients and bring to boil in a heavy pan.  Boil for 3 to 4 minutes.  Immediately cool in ice/water baths.  Bag and freeze.


Great Grandma Hohl’s Cucumber Relish


Peel and slice 4 quarts of cucumbers. 

Slice 1 quart of onion.

Cut 2 green and 1 red sweet pepper fine.  Put into salt water for 2 hours.  (1 cup of salt to 2 quarts of water)  Drain well. 


Put 2 cups vinegar, 1 cup sugar over pickles and bring to the boiling point.  Then mix:  1 cup sugar; ½ cup flour; ½ teaspoon turmeric; 1 teaspoon ground mustard; 1 teaspoon celery seed with 1 cup vinegar and stir into pickles.  Boil for 15 minutes.  Put into jars and follow approved canning methods.
